In February 2026, EFIC submitted its response to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the forthcoming European Strategy for Vocational Education and Training (VET).

EFIC calls for a forward-looking VET strategy that strengthens the practical relevance of curricula, combining traditional craft skills with digital, green and transversal competences. The response also stresses the importance of lifelong learning, upskilling, and the recognition of qualifications across Member States to facilitate labour mobility and enhance the attractiveness of vocational pathways.

Particular attention is given to improving SMEs’ access to training and mobility programmes, including Erasmus+, simplifying administrative procedures, and ensuring adequate financial and institutional support. EFIC further emphasizes the central role of social partners in skills development, cooperation, and the dissemination of best practices.

Finally, the contribution highlights the need for effective monitoring, better sector-specific skills intelligence, and stronger coordination between companies, training providers, social partners and public authorities to ensure that VET initiatives deliver tangible results in practice.
