EFIC co-signs a Joint Statement on the Circular Economy Act legal basis

Together with around 70 organisations across the value chain, EFIC calls on the European Commission to ensure that the upcoming Circular Economy Act (CEA) addresses the structural deficiencies and regulatory fragmentation currently characterising waste management across Europe.

This includes:

  • Grounding the Act in Article 114 TFEU (Internal Market legal basis)

  • Establishing harmonised rules where necessary to reduce regulatory fragmentation

  • Improving market coherence and cross-border circulation of secondary raw materials

  • Addressing structural inefficiencies across Member States

  • Ensuring that lagging Member States catch up with front-runners

  • Creating the conditions for broader and more consistent delivery of EU circular economy objectives

A coherent Internal Market framework is essential to support competitiveness, resilience and the EU’s transition to a circular and climate-neutral economy.
